Assessment needs . . .

of Instructors
Evaluating how well learners have achieved the course objectives is key to any instructor. In a web delivered course it is essential that the instuctor be able to use a variety of evaluation tools and have flexibility to control how learners have access to assessment tools.

Some key assessment features for instructors would be:

  • ability to offer a variety of objective types of test questions (T/F, multiple choice, matching) and have them automatically evaluated
  • easy to use interface for producing test questions
  • variety of testing controls (time available, time limits, weighted questions, variable forms)
  • an efficient means of managing a large number of essay submissions

of Learners
Learner needs dealing with assessment are much more basic. Learners want assesment instruments to be clear and easy to use.

Some useful features would be:

  • the ability to review all answers before final submission
  • basic word processing functions (cut, paste, etc.) for essay type questions
  • immediate feedback after submitting objective answers

The approach to assessment . . .

for Instructors
The e-education software is excellent for developing tests. All major types of questions are supported. (T/F, multiple choice, matching, fill-in, and essay) The question editors (Fig. 2) make it an easy matter to prepare questions.

The software also gives a tremendous amount of control over the test to the instructor. Options are available for setting time constraints or having proctored tests. (Fig. 3)

for Learners
The flexible design features of the e-education software enable the production of most traditional types of test questions in online form. A typical example of a multiple choice question is seen in Figure 1.

The software is certainly capable of handling the delivery of the assessment. The true responsibility for success lies with the instructor in the preparation of the assessment.
